Could the Culinary Union Go on Strike?

LAS VEGAS — The Culinary and Bartenders Union heads to the Thomas & Mack Center on May 22 to vote whether to go on strike as soon as June 1. That’s when union contracts expire for about 50,000 employees at 34 casino and resorts on the Las Vegas Strip and in Downtown Las Vegas. Workers at MGM Resorts, Caesars Entertainment, Penn National, Golden Entertainment, Boyd Gaming, and other companies plan to vote during two sessions on May 22, and if a majority agree to strike, bartenders, guest room attendants, cocktail servers, food servers, porters, bellman, cooks, and kitchen workers could go walk off the job any time starting June. 1.
