Station Casinos Workers to Meet with Local Faith Leaders

On Thursday, September 18, workers from Station Casinos will be meeting with local clergy from different Las Vegas faith communities at The Culinary Academy of Las Vegas. The Academy is an internationally recognized model of labor and management cooperation for the good of the community.

In a private meeting, committee members will be discussing their quest for a fair process with leaders of the Las Vegas faith community who have supported workers in their struggle for dignity and respect at Station Casinos. The pastors that will be in attendance are members of Clergy & Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE).

When: Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. This event is closed to the press, but media are invited from 8:30-9:00am for photos and brief interviews with clergy and workers from Station Casinos before. Interviews are limited, so please call Bethany (702-387-7088) to schedule.

Station Casinos is the fourth largest private-sector employer in Las Vegas. It has nine large hotel-casinos: Red Rock Resort, Green Valley Ranch, Boulder Station, Santa Fe Station, Sunset Station, Palace Station, Texas Station, Fiesta Rancho, and Fiesta Henderson.

The Culinary Union has created an online resource about the on-going labor dispute at these Station properties: www.VegasTravelAlert.org/Stations. The public and event/conference planners are urged to contact the Union to discuss alternatives to utilizing these properties.

Culinary Workers Local 226 and Bartenders Local 165, Nevada affiliates of UNITE HERE, represent over 55,000 workers in Las Vegas and Reno, including at most of casino resorts on the Las Vegas Strip. UNITE HERE represents 270,000 workers in gaming, hotel, and food service industries in North America.
