Democrats in Congress railed against the so-called Big Beautiful budget bill that Trump signed into law this summer. At the headquarters of the Local 226 Culinary Union, Rep. Steve Horsford (D-Nevada) led a rally including other lawmakers and labor professionals before the Ways and Means hearing.
“If Republicans want to have a victory for their new tax scam law, Las Vegas is the last place they should be doing it,” Horsford said. “There’s one big, ugly, inconvenient truth about the Republicans’ big, ugly law. It’s a bait and switch.”
Horsford said the bill harms Nevadans, who already deal with high levels of unemployment and sagging tourism. But House Republicans took a victory lap, focusing on certain provisions of the budget bill that eliminate income tax on taxes and overtime.
