The Nevada Democrats and the Culinary Union are expected to hold separate press conference highlighting President Trump’s impact on workers across the state ahead of his visit Wednesday.

The Culinary Union will hold its press conference at 10 a.m. Wednesday at its headquarters in Las Vegas.

The union said the event will focus on what it calls the “Trump Slump” — a term it is using to describe the economic effects of Trump’s tariffs, immigration enforcement, and rising grocery and gas prices on Nevada’s hospitality industry. The union said Canadian, Mexican, Southern California, and international tourism has declined under Trump’s policies.

Trump is visiting Las Vegas in part to highlight his No Tax on Tips proposal. The Culinary Union said the plan includes a marriage penalty, excludes banquet and restaurant workers who receive tips through service charges or buyouts, penalizes immigrant workers, and is set to expire when Trump leaves office.

Since Trump’s event will be Red Rock Casino, the union noted recent $1 million donations from Station Casinos and its owners Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta to a PAC affiliated with Gov. Joe Lombardo, collectively accounting for roughly one-third of all money raised by Lombardo in 2025.

The union said Lombardo has vetoed legislation that would have established paid family leave, expanded sick leave, wage theft penalties, and tenant protections. It also said a Lombardo appointee to the Gaming Control Board recommended approval of new Station Casinos licenses despite what the union described as federal labor regulators finding the company carried out “extensive, coercive, and unlawful misconduct” against employees, including illegally firing workers.

Speakers at the Las Vegas event are expected to include Culinary Union Secretary-Treasurer Ted Pappageorge, Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV-01), Rep. Steven Horsford (D-NV-04), and Rep. Susie Lee (D-NV-03), along with union members and Station Casinos workers.
