CONTRACT NEGOTIATION UPDATES
NEGOTIATIONS BEGIN/CONTINUE: For 1,500 members at Waldorf-Astoria and Hilton Grand Vacations. The union busting at Valley Hospital and Circus Reno continues, the workers will fight until we win!

LOVE THY NEIGHBOR VIGIL
Culinary Union Secretary-Treasurer Geoconda Argüello-Kline and Culinary Union member and TPS holder Ericka Lopez spoke at the Love Thy Neighbor vigil in support of refugees and migrants at the U.S. border and within the country. The Culinary Union will continue to fight for workers who have TPS and DACA. We are here to stay.
 
VIGILIA PARA AMAR AL PRÓJIMO
La Secretaria Tesorera de la Unión Culinaria Geoconda Argüello-Kline, y Ericka López que es una afiliada de la Unión Culinaria y beneficiaria de TPS, hablaron a los concurrentes de la vigilia para Amar al Prójimo en apoyo a los refugiados y emigrantes en la frontera de los EE.UU. y a los inmigrantes dentro del país. La Unión Culinaria seguirá la lucha a favor de los trabajadores que tienen TPS y DACA. Estamos aquí para quedarnos.

HOUSING VICTORY
Culinary Union members Denise and Daniel wanted to build a stable future for their family. They attended orientation, completed the required eight-hour homebuyer education class, and pre-purchase counseling. Their new home has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms with a garage and beautiful new flooring. Denise: “I never thought we could be homeowners until we went to the 8-hour class and I told my husband WE CAN DO THIS! If it wasn’t for Culinary Union Housing Partnership and the home-buyers class we wouldn’t be here today!”  
 
TRIUNFO EN VIVIENDAS
Los miembros de la Unión Culinaria Denise y Daniel quisieron construir un futuro estable para su familia. Asistieron a la sesión de orientación, cursaron la clase de compras inmobiliarias de ocho horas que se requiere, y la asesoría antes de la compra. Su nueva casa tiene 3 recamaras y 3 baños, cochera, y bellos pisos nuevos. Denise: “Nunca pensé que podíamos ser dueños de una casa hasta que fuimos a la clase de 8 horas y le dije a mi esposo ¡NOSOTROS PODEMOS! Si no fuera por la Asociación de Viviendas de la Unión Culinaria y la clase para comprar casas, ¡no estaríamos aquí hoy!”
 
MLK 2019 PARADE
The Culinary Union is proud to have marched in Las Vegas’ annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Parade. We will continue to honor Dr. King and his incredible legacy by doing the work and fighting for working families every day!

YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO ORGANIZE

The United States government says that you can organize a union!

Your company is covered by the National Labor Relations Act. Millions of American workers have organized unions under this law. You have the right to wear union buttons, go to union rallies, join union picket lines, and participate in other public actions organized by unions.
 


If something like this happens to you -or you see it happen to a coworker– tell your Union committee leader and call the Culinary Union at (702) 385-2131.
 
Keep a record of the details. We have enforced this federal law many times and are ready to do it again for you & your co-workers.
 
¡El gobierno de estados unidos dice que usted sí puede formar un sindicato!
Su compañía está cubierta por la Ley Nacional de Relaciones Laborales (National Labor Relations Act). Millones de trabajadores estadounidenses han formado sindicatos conforme a esta ley. Tiene derecho a usar botones sindicales, asistir a manifestaciones, unirse a una línea de protesta, y participar en otras acciones públicas organizadas por sindicatos.

Employee Rights to Union Representation

• You have a legal right to representation

A 1975 ruling by the Supreme Court (Weingarten Rights) says that if you are called into a meeting with management and are asked questions that lead you to believe that you may be fired, suspended, or penalized, you have the right to ask for and receive union representation at this investigatory interview.

• You must make a request for representation

Management is not obligated to tell you about your rights or to arrange to provide representation prior to the meeting.

• Request union representation

If you are called to a meeting with management, read the following when the meeting begins:

“If this interview could in any way lead to my being disciplined or terminated, or affect my personal working conditions, I respectfully request that my union representative, officer or steward be present at this meeting. Until my representative arrives, I choose not to participate in this discussion.”

Derechos de los Empleados a la Representación Sindical

• ¡Usted tiene el derecho por ley de tener un representante!

Una decisión de la Corte Suprema en 1975 (Derechos Weingarten) dicta que si usted es citado(a) a una reunión con la gerencia y le hacen preguntas que le hagan creer que usted puede ser despedido(a), suspendido(a) o sancionado(a), usted tiene el derecho de pedir y recibir la representación de la unión durante esa junta investigativa.

• ¡Usted debe pedir representación!

La gerencia no tiene la obligación de decirle a usted de sus derechos ni de hacer arreglos antes de la junta para proporcionarle un representante.

• ¡Petición de la representación de la unión!

Si usted es citado(a) a una junta con la gerencia, lea lo que sigue cuando la junta comience:

“Si esta entrevista puede de alguna manera llevar a que yo reciba una disciplina o sea despedido(a), o si puede afectar mis condiciones de trabajo personales, pido con todo respeto que esté presente en esta junta mi representante, funcionario, o delegado (steward) de la unión. Hasta que no llegue mi representante, elijo no participar en esta discusión.”
