CONGRESSWOMAN SUSIE LEE MEETS WITH STATION CASINO WORKERS
Congresswoman Susie Lee went the Culinary Union to hear directly from Station Casinos workers who are organizing & fighting to be treated with dignity and respect on the job. We look forward to having Congresswoman Susie Lee join the fight as workers continue organizing to make sure their jobs are good jobs.

SUNSET STATION VICTORY
Maria, a guest room attendant at Sunset Station was fired unfairly. The Culinary Union fought and won. Maria was reinstated to work without loss of seniority rights, benefits, and won $12,820 in retroactive pay. Congratulations!

PALACE VICTORY
The Culinary Union fought to ensure 75 workers at Palace Station’s Grand Café were retained & offered extended recall rights at new venues when the casino reopened. 50% of workers decided to go work at the buffet & the other 50% are training at the new restaurant Braze Fork. Palace Station workers are back at work with full seniority & vacation time. YES WE DID!

La Unión Culinaria luchó y se aseguró de que 75 trabajadores del Grand Café de Palace Station fueran retenidos y se les ofrecieran derechos de reincorporación extendidos en restaurantes nuevos cuando el casino reabrió sus puertas. El 50% de los trabajadores decidió ir a trabajar en el buffet y el otro 50% está entrenando en el nuevo restaurante Braze Fork. Culinary Union contracts protect 60,000 workers in Las Vegas with fair wages, job security, and the best health benefits.

We negotiated a strong contract In 2018. The Culinary Union fought hard for language to protect workers when the company brings in new technology.

Protections include:

*Advanced notification (of up to 6-months) of new technology implementation that could lead to layoffs and/or reduction of hours.

*Mandatory FREE re-training to use new technology for current jobs

*Access and mandatory FREE job training if there are new jobs that are created due to automation and technology.

*24-months extended recall rights with priority preference for other job openings in or out of the bargaining unit that workers are qualified for. Required employer-provided FREE training if workers can be qualified in a reasonable period of time.

*A retention bonus package based on years of service, which includes 6-months of health benefits, if a unionized worker is ever laid off due to technology.

Companies introducing technology to eliminate jobs is not new. Hospitality jobs will continue to change and evolve as they always have.

The Culinary Union has led the fight for respect on-the-job and we will not allow workers to be discarded. Casino companies have a responsibility to embrace negotiated protections in good faith and with shared purpose. We will enforce this new automation language.

Everyone deserves the right to dignity at work, the opportunity to provide for their family, to have job security and we will continue to lead the fight for those rights.

Sus contratos de la Unión Culinaria protegen a 60,000 trabajadores en Las Vegas con sueldos justos, seguridad laboral, y los mejores beneficios de salud.

Negociamos fuertes contratos en el 2018. La Unión Culinaria luchó arduamente por conseguir cláusulas que protejan a los trabajadores cuando las compañías traigan nueva tecnología.

Esas protecciones incluyen lo siguiente:

*Notificación con anticipación (de hasta 6 meses) de la implementación de nueva tecnología que podría provocar cesantías y/o la reducción de horas.

*Nueva capacitación obligatoria y GRATIS para usar la nueva tecnología en los empleos actuales.

*Acceso a puestos nuevos que son creados por la automatización y tecnología y capacitación GRATIS para esos nuevos empleos.

*Prolongación de los derechos de reincorporación por 24 meses, con prioridad para obtener otras plazas abiertas dentro o fuera de la unidad de negociaciones para las cuales los trabajadores estén calificados. Entrenamiento GRATIS y obligatorio si los trabajadores pueden ser capacitados en un periodo razonable.

*Un paquete de bonos por retención que se basan en los años de servicio, el cual incluye beneficios de salud por 6 meses, si un empleado sindicalizado es cesado (laid off) debido a la tecnología.

No es novedad que las compañías introduzcan nueva tecnología con el fin de eliminar empleos. Los trabajos de la industria hotelera seguirán cambiando y evolucionando como siempre.

La Unión Culinaria ha encabezado la lucha por el respeto en el trabajo, y no permitiremos que los trabajadores sean descartados. Las compañías de los casinos tienen la responsabilidad de acoger de buena fe y con propósito en común las protecciones que se negociaron. Nosotros haremos cumplir estas nuevas cláusulas sobre la automatización.

Todos se merecen el derecho a la dignidad en el trabajo, la oportunidad de proveer para su familia, a tener seguridad laboral y nosotros seguiremos encabezando la lucha por esos derechos.

The Culinary Union had many victories in our 2018 contract fight and we are proud to have secured great contracts for over 50,000 workers. We are now engaged in the tremendous job of enforcing all of the great new language and protections that we won last year.

We are making sure workers aren’t left behind by increasing technology/automation, fighting for safer workloads, protecting our Culinary Health Fund benefits, setting up a massive housekeeping study across Las Vegas, and taking on healthcare providers and hospital corporations at the Nevada Legislature to ensure Nevadans don’t have to choose between their medicine and putting food on the table.

We wanted to remind you that Early Voting begins today, Saturday, March 16, 2019 and ends March 29th.

Primary Election Day is Tuesday, April 2, 2019.

The Culinary Union supports Olivia Diaz for City Council Ward 3.

Olivia Diaz was raised in Ward 3. As a lifelong resident of the neighborhood and as a teacher, she sees the needs of Culinary Union members and our families firsthand.

Olivia’s father is a 35-year-member who worked at Caesars Palace as a casino porter and he was able to provide for his family because he had a good union job.

Olivia deserves the Culinary Union’s support and we hope you will vote for her.

La Unión Culinaria tuvo muchas victorias en nuestra lucha de contratos del 2018 y nos enorgullece haber obtenido magníficos contratos que cubren a más de 50,000 trabajadores.

Ahora estamos comprometidos en la enorme tarea de hacer cumplir ese nuevo y excelente lenguaje contractual y las protecciones que ganamos el año pasado.

Nos estamos asegurando de que los trabajadores no se queden atrás por el aumento de tecnología/automatización, luchando por cargas de trabajo más seguras, protegiendo nuestros beneficios del Fondo de Salud de la Culinaria, organizando un masivo estudio en los departamentos de limpieza por todo Las Vegas, y enfrentando a los proveedores de cuidados médicos y a las corporaciones hospitalarias en la Legislatura de Nevada para asegurarnos de que los nevadenses no se vean obligados a escoger entre comprar su medicina o poner comida sobre la mesa.

For 84 years, the Culinary Union has improved the lives of hundreds of thousands of Nevada hospitality workers and their families with union wages and benefits.
