Culinary Union guest room attendants ask for investigation into potential violations of Nevada State law on daily room cleaning
Las Vegas, NV - On January 27th, 2022 at 5:30pm, Culinary Union guest room attendants will hold a rally in front of the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) to ask the agency to investigate potential violations of these and other requirements of the Adolfo Fernandez Bill of 2020 (Senate Bill 4).
WHO:
*Ted Pappageorge, President for the Culinary Union
*Diana Valles, Organizing Director for the Culinary Union
*Hundreds of Culinary Union guest room attendants who are employed at Bally’s Las Vegas and Flamingo Las Vegas
*NV AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Susie Martinez
*Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom who is a member of the Southern Nevada Health District Board
WHAT: Culinary Union guest room attendants ask for investigation into potential violations of Senate Bill 4 Nevada State law regarding daily room cleaning.
WHEN: Thursday, January 27th, 2022 at 5:30pm
WHERE: Southern Nevada Health District (280 South Decatur Blvd Las Vegas, NV 89107)
WHY: On January 27th, 2022, Culinary Union guest room attendants will hold a rally in front of the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) to ask the agency to investigate potential violations of these and other requirements of the Adolfo Fernandez Bill of 2020 (Senate Bill 4).
The Adolfo Fernandez Bill was the first (and remains the only) state law in the United States to require comprehensive measures to protect hospitality employees from COVID-19. Among other things, it requires hotels in Clark County and Washoe County to provide daily cleaning of occupied rooms (unless declined by the guest) and prohibits hotels from advising or incentivizing guests to decline daily housekeeping service.
While processing Culinary Union bargaining unit member grievances regarding working conditions and in other conversations with the workers, the Culinary Union has heard from many guest room attendants about the daily cleaning of occupied hotel rooms or the lack thereof.
The Culinary Union has sent worker statements to the Southern Nevada Health District and is asking for the agency to investigate potential violations of SB4 and local health code regulations by Caesars Entertainment International properties Bally’s Las Vegas and Flamingo Las Vegas.
